Historical Senamiestis
Senamiestis , or Old Town, is the oldest district of Vilnius, located on the left bank of the Neris River, bordering Naujamiestis to the west, and is separated to the east by the Vilnia River from the Užupis district. The old town of Vilnius, which has developed over hundreds of years, is both historically and architecturally a very multi-layered district. Thanks to the well-preserved old town and its historical value, the old town of Vilnius is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Active Naujamiestis
Naujamiestis is a district in the center of Vilnius, bordered by Senamiestis to the east and separated from Šnipiškės to the north by the Neris River. It is known for its active city life and cultural institutions – Naujamiestis is known as a center of work and culture. Many different events take place here, making it popular among both locals and tourists.
Creative Užupis
Užupis is a unique district located on the right bank of the Vilnia River, bordered by Antakalnis to the northeast and Senamiestis across the Vilnia River to the west, with Užupis literally meaning “across the river”. It is a truly unique and artistic district of Vilnius, popular for its bohemian atmosphere. The residents have declared the district the Republic of Užupis, with its own flag, anthem, president and constitution.
Growing Šnipiškės
Šnipiškės is a district on the right bank of the Neris River, bordered to the south by the districts of Naujamiestis and Senamiestis. Today, the Šnipiškės district is known as skyscrapers and business district. However, the district is characterized by strong contrasts, with old wooden houses standing next to the new skyscrapers. This is where the fast and modern pace of life meets the slow and more traditional one.
